Xigmatek Asgard Pure Black Edition - Review

That of entry-level homes is an attractive market, as most desktop PC owners do not have medium or high end homes. Saving does not mean necessarily satisfied, and this message has been received by producers, at competitive prices, products put on the market with features, aesthetic and functional, which until a few years ago were exclusive to more expensive homes.

The case of Asgard Xigmatek enter fully into this description, and today we will see why.

The cardboard packaging is simple, without large trim or decoration. On the front and rear shall indicate the name of the case and the main features, technical specifications on the left side and right side features provided in multiple languages. Inside is the case, protected by two bars of polystyrene and a transparent plastic bag.

As the name suggests, "Pure Black Edition ', Asgard was completely black (thankfully non-glossy), both outside and inside. Slightly further down, always on the box, there is also the phrase: "On Classic Chassis", because in fact the structure of the case is the most classic.
The housing supply is at the top, there are no ventilation holes at the bottom or top, there is the one usually on the back, no holes for liquid cooling systems, and the panel with the power and reset buttons as well as two USB ports and jacks for headphones and microphone, is placed at the front, below the 3.5 "drives. Everything is "classic" for a case, however, stop there.

Asgard is an almost completely tool-less homes. Both panels can be removed without the aid of a screwdriver and the same applies to the indoor units and for tabs. The left panel has space for two fans 80, 90 or 120mm, and the paint is strong enough not to scratch the first accidental impact with the screwdriver, with the passage of the panel or in the over-tighten the screws. The fans will be positioned just lateral to high CPU and VGA.

All ', as already said, the case is completely black with clips tool-less orange to draw the mark Xigmatek. Both the houses that the clips are well made, with the latter does not give the idea of a plastic easy to break or crumble. Housing the motherboard we see the large "back hole", ie the hole for the replacement of the rear plate of the heat sinks again without making it necessary to remove the motherboard. Pleasant surprise, to the right, the presence of more holes for cable management that simplify the operations. In this regard, as well as many screws (longer than necessary and not the usual count), Xigmatek also bundles clips and cable ties for cable management and additional plates to cover the card slots. Everything, of course, black. Finally all the interior finishes of the houses has chamfered to prevent accidental cuts to the assembler, the material is often SGCC 0.6 mm. The front panel, apart from the previously mentioned command bar, is completely composed of metal mesh with black glossy finish on the sides and on the bar. On top there are 4 bays for 5.25 "drive and a 3.25". The bottom portion conceals the only fan in each room, a Xigmatek Brushless DC 12V 0.18A fan, inaudible as you can see yourself at the end of our video. All shirts come with easily removable dust filters.

The only "defect" that we found are the absence of at least one other fan (it is unthinkable to cool the case only with the front) and the lack of lateral support to support the heavier and larger power supplies of the standard.

Returning to the discussion instead of the "classic chassis", we share the Xigmatek choice not to practice too many ventilations holes in other parts of the houses as well as to overlook the holes for the plants to liquid (never seen installed in entry-level homes). First, because this leaves more leeway for creativity of modders, the other to facilitate the task for those who want a quieter PC, allowing easier implementation of soundproof panels.

Xigmatek Asgard is for sale at a price ranging between 30 and 35 €, virtually "below cost".
