Sony Bravia EX700

The Sony Bravia KDL-46EX700 is the 46-inch KDL EX700 series that also includes the following models: KDL-32EX700, KDL-40EX700, KDL-52EX700 and KDL-60EX700. The characteristics, as well as the functions, are identical for the whole range, changing the screen size, for which the review is ideally unique for all the models cited.
The design of the KDL-EX700 is cured (live makes it that much in the picture), with the aluminum band that breaks up the black screen, frame and base. Like all edge-led, well here we are dealing with a very thin TV.
The screen is matte, which means total absence of reflexes, information is vital for those with light sources (windows and balconies) near or in front of the TV. Something different must be done for the artificial light that is reflected more than normal. The inclination of the base is not adjustable, but it is possible to rotate the TV up to 20 ° per side. Of course, being glossy black, a lot of dust accumulates.
On the front, bottom, we note that the sensor detects the ambient light level, the remote control receiver and three status LEDs. The first lights up when there is an image, you set the timer or make an update. The second is the standby and the third green when the TV is on. The one in the center instead is the sensor. When active, you can set how many minutes should each take a scanner that works up to a radius of 6 meters (80 ° horizontal, 30 ° vertical, 20 ° angle). If you do not detect motion, the TV goes into standby for half an hour before it goes out.
Unless you're waxworks, the sensor works well and never goes out when someone in the face really. You've all had to leave "a moment" and then forget the TV on ... with the active sensor does not happen again.
On the right is a small panel with the controls: power on / standby, channel selection, volume, input selection, and home energy saving switch. On the left hand is no command but the CAM, USB ports, two HDMI inputs for composite and one for headphones.
Finally, in the back left, are the remaining inputs: antenna, two scart, LAN, two HDMI, VGA port for PCs and digital audio, optical audio output, var / fix and inputs for the component cable.
Smart and useful choice of the inputs on the left, then those that are most used for temporary connections (phone, video / camera, headset, usb pendrive, etc..). Much less is sensible but the choice not to equip the Bravia built-in WiFi or a device, at least, not to include two USB ports and not to make life easier for those who decide to appear optional WiFi adapter.
The remote is a middle ground between too few controls and commands, that is to be considered too few to be simple and advanced. The material quality is poor.
Navigating the menu is not complicated but more cumbersome and complex. The lack of further commands will be felt immediately, when you try to set the TV and the best scuriosare through the menus. A lack are also many shortcuts media player, a shame given that the Bravia has a virtually embedded. However, the menus are intuitive as intuitive and well taken care of (most console-style) is all the multimedia interface, including Web functions. The fluidity of the menus, as well as of uploading photos and video are excellent, a little trouble 'with the latter only when large.
The picture quality is in line with the competition, both qualities that the defects. Motionflow is almost here too dangerous and to take off, except for some sports, however, very (much) more functional than most TV's seen so far.
Black is decent, tending to bluish in scenes not too dark. Is compensated by a very bright white, perhaps the brightest we've ever seen. The panel is lit evenly enough, only in the completely dark scenes you can see some trimming, especially in the corners.
Upscaling and downscaling are well managed both at 720p to 480p. Suffers 1080i, inexplicably, and suffers much.
The sound is "heard", with two 10W speakers are unable to follow the TV in the company. It seems obvious but many TVs have much lower audio quality and with less clear. Escapes the "steady sound", which should automatically control the volume level and instead ...
I have the EX700 series Bravia Freeview sticker silver, that are designed for Pay TV HD on DTT, but not for the interaction.
Overall, the EX700 series is a more than good, penalized by a price that leads to shop around and find products that offer a little 'more for the same price. A cut is already in stores, however, rising from € 1549 officers (46 inches) to about € 1300. The remaining cost of the series, in Italy: KDL-32EX700 € 800, KDL-40EX700 € 1000, KDL-52EX700 € 1800, KDL-60EX700 € 2600.
